BMW Supplies Huge fleet of vehicles for the London Olympics 2012

BMW 5 Series 520d EfficientDynamicsBMW, main automotive sponsor of the London Olympics Games roam the streets of the capital shuttling the Athletes, Families & Officials during the games.

BMW Group's global sales and marketing director, Ian Robertson spoke how BMW won the Olympics contract, as the company complied with London's demand for a fleet of low emission vehicles - the BMW 520d that can travel 63 miles on a gallon of diesel whilst emitting just 119 g/km carbon dioxide. BMW has reduced its average emissions by 5.1% in the last year alone, versus 3.4% for Audi and 3.3% for Mercedes



With over 4000 vehicles in use, they where aided by use of the special Olympic Lanes to speed up their journeys.

BMW i pedelec' (pedal electric cycle) foldable concept bike. 


Composed of lightweight aluminum and carbon fibre, the 3-speed bicycle is fitted with an electric motor that assists the rider's pedaling up to 16mph (25 km/hr), with a range of about 16-25 miles (25 - 40 km). two folded bikes are designed to fit in the trunk




The battery attains a full quick charge is 1.5 hours (4 hours on normal units),
from either a wall outlet or a socket in the trunk of the 'i3'. when riding downhill, the electric hub motor functions as a generator,
recuperating kinetic energy for the battery.
